Sartharion Goes Down (and takes his friends)

This past week something unfortunate but ultimately productive occurred:  Jane and Danewort were unavailable to raid.  This happens from time to time and often it meant that we wouldn’t have enough for a ten-man being down two members of our usual team but this week we had a full compliment especially with the addition of our new-ish 80, Mithantrum.

At a loss for what to do, on Tuesday we did the raid-weekly and then tried to decide whether to just do some PvP, run randoms, or whatever.  Well, “whatever” took the day and we decided to do Sartharion plus three drakes a few times.

On our first attempt, we got him down to 4% and, considering that success, we decided to keep trying.  We were simply zerging him letting some guy from a different guild, aka Redstout, tanking Sarth while Selvain handled the drakes and fire elementals, Telsatori and Darthaniel were on heals, and the rest of the team just DPS-ed Sarth down.  After that first attempt, we started to focus on placement, planning, buffs, etc. and, counter intuitively, never found the success that we had with the first attempt.

However, we returned to try it all again on Friday.   And after a few more planned, focused attempts, we decided to give it one more shot and this time we got him down!

Sartharion + 3 Drakes Kill

Sartharion goes down!

It was the same basic raid make-up between Tuesday and Friday so we think that it was a combination of dedication and luck.  The luck part was seeing two ranged flame walls which helped us all move less during the fight and kept the DPS a little more constant during the attempt.

It’s unfortunate that our fearless leaders, Jane and Danewort, were unavailable, but if either or both of them had been there, we likely would have been in ICC both days and now a bunch of us wouldn’t be sporting the spiffy new title “of the Nightfall.”  It’s also unfortunate that some guy from a different guild, aka Redstout, also got the black drake which drops on the kill.

See you all on Tuesday!

The Professor has Left the Building

Professor Putricide killed by Team Venture on Oct. 22, 2010

Team Venture Kills Professor!

So, it’s been a while since we had an update to post on our weekend guild activities. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but between Vet Schools, jobs, and the cold, dark of the Alaskan wilderness, we’ve all been pretty much just doing our own thing and hanging out whenever we can. But, no more! Tuesday and Friday night raiding is back. It must be something to do with the sun; apparently all the rest of you like going outside or something while the dayball shines or something. But now, with darkness falling early, do the gamers log on to play….

And play we did! For weeks, I inflated my ego with thoughts of top ranking DPS meters and the linchpin status of my toon in the guild, but now my delusions of grandeur have been solidly defeated just like a certain Professor Putricide.   Appearing in the fight were Danewort and some guy from a different guild named RedStout as tanks and our own Jane and Darthaniel on heals.  The DPS were rounded out by Mithantrum, Dorthur, Lou, Kralkurth, Dannygnome, and “Big Papa” Papadapolis.

Congrats to you all and congrats to all of us for finally getting this guy down.

Jane’s picture of Polar Bears and Starcraft 2

A mom and her two cubs off the stern of the ship, Svalbard

So I know that the picture is NOT specifically related to wow, but if you really think about it, it could be.  I mean, this was the reason that I had not been playing wow for so long!  And now, after so much complaining and the pending doom of school on Monday I have yet to even log in.  Why one might ask (Or DannyGnome, Selvain, and McLovin may know) is because I have recently acquired Starcraft 2 and have been blundering a few AI matches with Danewort.  It’s been fun, distracting, and I wish I had more time in the day to play it all.  I was really hoping to raid tonight (Friday) but we didn’t get enough of the guild on for even a series of 5 mans.  Selvain, I need to be introduced to your new character that you were playing!  Hopefully, as the end of summer approaches, we will come back to some raids.  Tuesday nights still have pretty high attendance I hear- too bad I may not be able to participate in those.  But let’s not be debbie downer!  I saw POLAR BEARS and maybe this year won’t be as busy, really.  Miss you all still, hopefully I’ll catch more of you over the rest of the weekend.

**Special Hugs to Ydain and Dash**

I MISS team venture :)

Jane here, I KNOW right?  Can’t believe that I actually have Internet again.  Well, this time it’s only for a brief few hours before I’m whisked away to the back country of the middle of no where-  summer fun here I come!  I can’t wait to dust off wow for a little time next week- hopefully everyone will be back from summer vacations etc.  I’ve been busy, as everyone can see.  My latest adventure was to Norway, specifically Svalbard (group of islands in the North).  And yes, there were POLAR BEARS!  WOOT WOOT!  I’ll have some Jane stories for you later, gotta run and finish getting the peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookies out of the oven- if only they had that recipe in game.

*Hugs* Jane

Jane is lost to RL: Guild to have fun anyways

Just a quick update to say I miss you all, Dave is keeping up with everything, and you all should kick some serious raid butt!  I’ve been on rotations for school and away from the computer more then usual.  When I do have time I’ve been trying to recover and get some sleep.  I do have some quotes and good reasons we wiped the raid saved up and promise to get those updated next week.  Have a great time everyone!

It’s a Giant Purple Dragon!

Here’s the 10man version of the Halion fight from Tankspot.com.  I put it on the Raiding page, too, where it can stay for the moment, but in case you’re too lazy to click in the menu, you can click play right here!

In the beginning…

In the beginning, there was Blizzard.  And Blizzard saw that it was so and said that it was good.  And, yea, did Blizzard decide to make games.  Games for the console and, in time, games for the computers.  The people flocked to these games, playing them like Charlie Daniels plays a fiddle. Blizzard saw that this was good, also, and chose to do more.  Verily did they reach for greatness and in achieving, thusly, was the World of Warcraft born.  Tired did Blizzard rest on Tuesday.  This, however, was not to last.

Soon, the fans did find problems.  They cried out to Blizzard that these problems must be fixed.  Forsooth, many such issues did require solutions, and Blizzard’s days of respite had come to an end.  Retaliating did they decree that forevermore would Tuesday be the day on which the fans would receive their just desserts in the form of … the Patch.

Some small, some large.  Some providing new and wonderful things; others less and some more.  Tuesdays, then, became a day of woe for many gamers.  Forced to find other pursuits in order to occupy their time, some were even forced outside.

Blizzard did see that the fans were angered.  So, they decreed that for stepping into the dungeon of Icecrown Citadel we would now be rewarded with a 25% buff.  And the fans play on.

And Blizzard saw this and saw that it was good.

Guild Raiding 6/15-6/20 and more!

So our guild seems to like Tuesday night raiding.  Funny considering we started raiding as a one night per week on the weekend sometime guild.  Oh well, you won’t see this tree complaining!  On Tuesday we seemed to be spilling over with level 80s so we went straight to ICC and skipped the weekly raid for the moment.  We were on a roll and planned to go 6/6 again (timing was AWESOME PEOPLE!) but the weekly in ICC turned out to be the green debuff + orange debuff= prizes! So we opted to go for the quest and put Rotface on hold for the moment.  Great job to all, you guys make my job pretty easy!   Normally there would now be a roll call inserted here with the shout outs to all the cool people who ran with us that night.  I’m sorry, but I wasn’t feeling my best so truthfully I can’t remember who all was there!  Thanks to everyone though!

So the week went by with a couple of daily heroics and chilling in Dal, and on Friday it seemed everyone was out of town or working.  So we pugged a few in for the weekly (Plaguebringer) and called it an early night.  Well, I didn’t exactly, I had the 12-6 shift so I guess you could say I had to work too! Friday was made a little more extra special because IT WAS SELVAIN’S 80TH BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU BIG BEAR BUTT!

Saturday seemed even more scarce then Friday, but ubber props to Akuasama for finishing the quests for the 5-man Icecrown/ Linch King dungeons.  Now we can run them on heroic difficulty and snag you some swag!  Not that you aren’t grabbing some good badge and rep gear with all that you’ve been up to!  (Already exalted with Wyrmcrest and close to it on Hodir!  Seriously, you’ve got mad skills).   Thanks Selvain for tanking, you so totally rock!

And so that brings us to Sunday (Happy father’s day to those in the guild).  Did I mention earlier in my post that we started only raiding once a week?  Well, determined to get to putricide again and have time to take him down, we met again to take Rotface down.  Surprise celebrity guest—- Kralkurth!  We’ve missed you buddy and glad to hear that you’ve missed us.  More props to: Billythequizboy and Butkus!  Good having you brothers in the game!  McLovin, Selvain, Heiliger, Dashifen, Danewort, and Dmitrious were there too, as we threw ourselves against the cement wall that was Rotface for the evening.  Three cheers to us for having fun with it still.  There was a few times where it was down to one or two people and just one good crit would have done it.  Seriously, if Heiliger Mage tanks any more, we’ll have to consider adding him to the tanking line up!

Great job all, I’ll get you next time Gadget!  I mean Rotface.

Mage Tank Solo’s Ony; Big Bear Butt to Rock Out

So where do I start on this Weekend’s update?  I really just don’t know.  There are so many things that are going on in the guild it kinda hurts to think about them all at once.  So I suppose I’ll go chronologically.

Friday we hit up ICC10.  We had raided on Tuesday and got Marrowgar down, goodness did I miss a Tuesday post?  Sorry all, this week’s been long and busy.  Anyways, so on Friday we knocked down Lady Deathwhisper.  Most of the usual suspects were there, so you police don’t have to look to far for the culprit of who wiped the raid.  Props to Loumenafor hopping on!  Sad face to Rekkoning who may or may not be on a government mission in the Alaskan backcountry with no hope of outside contact and some flint and a fishing pole to survive on.  In his stead we had the wonderful, magnificent, mac-loving Selvain shake his Big Bear Butt at the bad guys and wooohooo did he do a great job.  Seriously, the druid tank/ druid heals combo is pretty nice if I do say so myself.  Dmitrious cheated on us during the week (Yup, we aren’t going to let you live that one down EVER) so he couldn’t join us for any of the bosses!  Finally, Akusuama hit level 80!  WHOOHOOOOHOHOHO YEA!!!!!  So now he can be booty called to raids and his first was Friday night kicking some butt in ICC.  I am not sure if the shell shock has had time to wear off.  So we pummeled Saurofang at the end of the night and left it at that.

Saturday we still couldn’t seem to get Dmitrious to see us in the dungeon but we kicked Fester in the gut anyway.  Yup we rocked it out.  Funny, the trap didn’t trigger on the run in.  Too bad our rogue is um, absent as of late (well, actually not too bad for him, shout out to you Kralkurth, you know why!).  We had loads of fun waiting for people while starting the raid.  We had tried to pug someone in, but they seemed to d/c conveniently before things started.  No, I won’t name names, but you can always leave a comment and I will tell you later.  People had sandbox tigers out, crashing-thrashing racers, and all sorts of in game pets.  The gnome with the pet gnome little helper was pretty classic. McLovin and I had a great time with the racers too, I try to bring it out and this was the first time someone else had one!

So, since Rotface didn’t appear to be in the forecast for the evening we headed out to ONY.  Again, Akusuama in tow, never having seen ony before.  The, “Oh, this will be fun” comment started to be code for “don’t worry Aku, you’ll die and laugh because it will be so fast”.  In his defense he did a great job and only died when we all did, but I get ahead of myself.  Our tanks were awesome- Danewort flawless as usual and Selvain rocking out the bear like no one else can.  Our dps was ready, spatially aware, and excited to go.  Healers, well, I don’t want to say it, but Darthaniel and I make a pretty nice team.  So when Ony went up fast to phase 2 we weren’t really surprised.  When all the whelps were picked up and adds brought down, it wasn’t that big of a deal.  When no one, I mean NO ONE, took damage from deep breath, well, that was actually a shocker, but it still was cool.  Things were just too nice and smooth for us so when not one, but two or three people got throw in the pits during phase 3, the raid started to fall to pieces.  Selvain did a great job trying to pick them up, but at a certain level there were just too many to handle, and with the fears, and the tremor totems not working, and one healer down, one interrupted too much to get heals off then going near oom, cloth dps dropping like flies, high dps trying to kill them before they killed us accidentally getting in the way of the tail….man it was crazy.  And all the while Ony’s health just kept droping, sooooo close!  And our trusty Paladin Tank Danewort goes down with her at a little more then 4,000 health.  BUT WAIT!  Alas, beyond the reach of the chaos is the audacious mage Heiliger, who this long while has dreamed of being a tank (so much so that he pulls mobs for the raid- shout out to you for being awesome).  And with courage and disregard for his own life, the little gnome rushes in, tanks the entire 50000 mobs in the room, and single handedly slays Onyixa without breaking a sweat.  It was so epic you could hear the cries of triumph from the dead in vent.  Go Heiliger you are made of awesome and win.

But wait! There is MORE!  One lucky member of our guild now holds the Reins of Onyxian Drake.  Props to Akuasama for kindly deferring to a member who already had epic and cold weather flying, and congrats to Darthaniel for owning one of the rarest drops ever.  If his calculations are correct, if the guild ran Ony every week for 100 years, we all may eventually get the mount.  It’s even a 310%.  I am sorry for not getting a picture up on the page for you all, I was too in shock and awe when he first mounted up.  I’ll be sure to stalk him accordingly to post one.

More shout outs to a new member of the guild.  He joins us as a night elf hunter and hopefully I’ll have his name all spelled right soon so you can say hi in game.  He’s a real life friend that can finally hang out with our awesome guild in game.  I won’t surprised if he’s level 80 by the weekend.

So much time, so few players

So we had all the time in the world this weekend to knock down Prof. Putricide. We did our amazing clear on Tuesday and a few willing souls logged on for the raid on Friday hoping to be battered to a pulp a few times by the evil scientist. Well, the world was against us and we ended up not having enough for the 10 man. I didn’t even set foot in Icecrown this weekend. Special shout outs to McLovin, Heiliger, Dash, Danewort, Kliz, and Darth (shoot I’m missing one! Rekk, was that you with the dangely things?) for hanging in there. We ended up finishing out the ToC 10 that we started. It was our second time all the way to the end, and a few of the people hadn’t been with us the first time we ganked the Big Beetle Boss. So that was fun, I really do like that raid. Did you know what too? If you’re on the sandbox tiger when the floor breaks you fall while still playing quietly and land safely on the ground, still on the sandbox tiger. There was also quite a bit of rock throwing and Zeplin running.

So on Saturday, we didn’t raid either. A few of us ran a random, there was bag clearing, auction house buying things, profession doing, but no raiding. Well, that was until the boys transfered to Starcraft II and Jane went back to Dalaran to logg off and I saw in Trade:

[/5: Trade] LFG VoA, dps or heals
[/5: Trade] LFM, need tank and heals VoA 25
[/5: Trade] DPS shamman GS 5.4k LF group VoA 10/25

Yeah that’s right, the alliance finally got a hold of WG and there were people looking for a group, a raid, more, a chance to get some gear! I couldn’t believe it. So I look at Danewort, and think, ok. I’ve got time, sure. I adverstised my healing talents (Heals LFG VoA 10/25) and boom I’m in a group. About 2 minutes later the group leader says that there is another group closer to going and that he’d give them our names. No invite. No biggie, I’m at the dungeon by now, there are plenty of people around and I throw it out in general. Now, I don’t think I’m fantablous at heals but I can hold my own and I do have ICC and tier 10 gear, I’m not too shabby. Well, let me just say that I felt like the booger 4-eyes that sits on the dirt edge of the field waiting and being the last one picked for kickball. No wonder rading and pugging gets such bad rep. The group I was with were generally nice, some more so then others, and we did get the big boss down but most people left when the leader suggested we go do another boss. The ones that were complaining about the tanking were the dps that just sat in the fire, and the healing help was a little sparce (though they did try). Gosh I’m spoiled.

Moral of that Storytime with Jane: THANK YOU TEAM VENTURE FOR BEING SO AWESOME! I LOVE PLAYING WITH YOU ALL.
