Sartharion Goes Down (and takes his friends)

This past week something unfortunate but ultimately productive occurred:  Jane and Danewort were unavailable to raid.  This happens from time to time and often it meant that we wouldn’t have enough for a ten-man being down two members of our usual team but this week we had a full compliment especially with the addition of our new-ish 80, Mithantrum.

At a loss for what to do, on Tuesday we did the raid-weekly and then tried to decide whether to just do some PvP, run randoms, or whatever.  Well, “whatever” took the day and we decided to do Sartharion plus three drakes a few times.

On our first attempt, we got him down to 4% and, considering that success, we decided to keep trying.  We were simply zerging him letting some guy from a different guild, aka Redstout, tanking Sarth while Selvain handled the drakes and fire elementals, Telsatori and Darthaniel were on heals, and the rest of the team just DPS-ed Sarth down.  After that first attempt, we started to focus on placement, planning, buffs, etc. and, counter intuitively, never found the success that we had with the first attempt.

However, we returned to try it all again on Friday.   And after a few more planned, focused attempts, we decided to give it one more shot and this time we got him down!

Sartharion + 3 Drakes Kill

Sartharion goes down!

It was the same basic raid make-up between Tuesday and Friday so we think that it was a combination of dedication and luck.  The luck part was seeing two ranged flame walls which helped us all move less during the fight and kept the DPS a little more constant during the attempt.

It’s unfortunate that our fearless leaders, Jane and Danewort, were unavailable, but if either or both of them had been there, we likely would have been in ICC both days and now a bunch of us wouldn’t be sporting the spiffy new title “of the Nightfall.”  It’s also unfortunate that some guy from a different guild, aka Redstout, also got the black drake which drops on the kill.

See you all on Tuesday!

It’s a Giant Purple Dragon!

Here’s the 10man version of the Halion fight from Tankspot.com.  I put it on the Raiding page, too, where it can stay for the moment, but in case you’re too lazy to click in the menu, you can click play right here!

Wednesday LEEEROOOY!!!

Shout out to Danewort, Heiliger, Darthaniel, Selvain and myself for finally getting the “Jenkins” title.  Dash came too, but he already had it.  I will say we killed a few 50 extra just to be sure.  Check out the pic added to the gallery.

ICC Buff Increased!

If you’re coming to the raid tonight, Varian Wrynn’s very presence has once again increased our effectiveness by another 5% just for showing up.  MMO-Champion (and soon, every other site about WoW in the known universe) is reporting that we’re all getting 20% from the buff starting tonight!

What happened to Friday Raid night?

So on Tuesday we were lucky enough to do the weekly raid (Razorscale) and the first 3 bosses of ICC.  It was super fun and there was an assignment given- bring your favorite Chuck Norris joke to the raid on Friday.  Sadly, the raid of ICC didn’t happen tonight.  The Chuck Norris jokes were brought with reckless abandon, they will be posted in the quotes page as soon as I can find the energy.

So what happened to the raid?  I’ll tell you, but you have to promise you didn’t hear it from me and that the words weren’t really spoken…****pvp****.  There was a bit of let down after the S&M run and McLovin and myself took down Tauren Mill only to be taken down by a horde druid.  In my defense I was cat spec’d and don’t know how to properly dps in that form let alone pvp.  So, while trying to figure out what to do with 7 players, we saved Dmitrious’s lock from griefers near Goldshire and it came up that we were at Tauren mill the other night.  Darth and Dmitrious ran over there soon we were all heading to Southshore to do some ******pvp******.  What a blast.  We had a good showing of horde too- 5 or 6 (not at the same time) rolled through, with several (10?) low levels that just stood and stared, and laughed. Thanks to the non guildies that heard about it and joined in to help.  We had a good time, learned to stick together (well maybe) and all thank Heiliger for the food and port. We need to figure out how to get on the roof.

If Rekkoning asks though, we did no such thing involving those blasphemous letters.

Apologies and a new idea

My deepest, though likely not sincerest, apologies to those men who have recently been misrepresented in the quotes section of the website.  While learning about the newest guild member misquoted this evening I realized- while we are having one of the many laughing fits in the vent channel and I am trying to heal and write down the funny thing that started it off, all male voices sound alike.  I told my fellow dungeon runners (Astenceli, Dashifen, and Dmitrious) just that.  They said it was sexist. And my response to that was “you’ll just have to deal with it”.  Ahhh I love running randoms with guildies.  The conversation turned into a great new idea-  who can spot all of the errors that Jane puts on the website.  It makes me want to throw a few things in to see if it would work.  Maybe a secrete code?  Oh the possibilities. Happy Monday all, Can’t wait for the raid tomorrow!

Gnomish Mage with a Mid-life Crisis

Heiliger, our illustrious mage is turning 30 soon (Happy Birthday).  Now when a young gnome becomes an adult gnome at 30 there is a tradition that is upheld throughout the community.  The rite of the Changing of the Name is one that is revered in gnomish culture and represents the gnome venturing out to be his own gnome.

Some more information on the Lore: Gnome parents name their children at birth. Gnomes have family names that represent an honored ancestor’s achievements, but they only keep these names until some time in their thirties. At this point, gnome society expects them to have made their own achievements, and thus the gnome invents a new name that represents his own accomplishments. This name then takes the place of his family name

So what do the members of Team Venture have to do with this?  Well, you all know Heiliger well and it’s now your chance to suggest his new name.

Here’s what you have to do:

1. Think of a name, one that would be worth the honor and respect that Heiliger deserves

2. Create a level 1 character on Thrall and save the name to be sure it’s available.

3. Leave a comment to this page describing your name, and a reason why you chose it.

4. Heiliger will pick the top three essays and they will be posted for a poll at a later date.

Another Calendar Improvement

Your friendly neighborhood web master here once again.  I’ve updated the calendar so that it can be printed in any timezone you want (rather than specifically server-time for Thrall-US).  It’ll default to the Eastern timezone (just like Thrall) but if you prefer to print it in a different timezone, you can go to your profile and select a different timezone for it.

Check it out and let me know if you run into any problems!

A Small Change to the Calendar

Greetings all!  Your friendly neighborhood web master here.  I just made a small change to the site:  all times that appear will be in server-time for Thrall-US.  In other words:  they’re in the Eastern timezone.  You’ll have to adjust those times to your own timezone, like for the calendar, on your own for the moment, though I’m looking into a way to control the calendar such that it always lists the times in your own timezone, but that’s for a later date.

I’m also working on enabling comments on the site so that we can discuss things about posts until the Forum comes back.

See you all online!

Mid week Awesome and Win!

So we threw in a mid week raid for our little crit chicken.  His name is Billythequizboy and is super awesome.  It’s just a quick post, but there are a few key points for the update!

  1. Rekkoning has internet in Alaska.  ROCK ON!  He’s still missed but at least can log on and run with us.  He had to find a headset because his was broken, and the polar bears found one eventually.  Rekk, I think Lou really misses you, but it’s nice to see you online.
  2. Billythequizboy did his first ICC run
  3. WE GOT FESTERGUT!!!  Ok, so it may have taken a million times to do and it was with the 15% buff, but I will take what blizz gives us.  We FINALLY got him beaten to a pulp and cleaned with bleach!
  4. We ONE-SHOT the first 5 bosses in ICC in a reletively short amount of time.  Yup, that’s right.  After all of that time trying to get Rotgut face we finally got him on the first try.

There are raids scheduled for the weekend.  Sign up!
